CEMS alumnus receives 2014 Andreas Acrivos Dissertation Award. Sept. 15, 2014 - Eric Vandre (ChemE '08, Ph.D. '13) recently won the Andreas Acrivos Dissertation Award in Fluid Dynamics. This award is given each year by the American Physical Society Division of Fluid Dynamics in recognition of an exceptional young scientist who has performed original doctoral thesis work of outstanding.
He was then awarded a University of California Graduate Fellowship to pursue his doctoral research at the University of California, San Diego. He received an M.S. (2010) and Ph.D. (2012) from UCSD and was awarded the Andreas Acrivos Award for Outstanding Dissertation in Fluid Dynamics from the American Physical Society.
She then entered Harvard University for post doctorate work in physics. Recently she was awarded the 2018 Andreas Acrivos Dissertation Award in Fluid Dynamics, one of the most distinguished academic awards in physics. She is only the second woman to ever be awarded the prize.
The Andreas Acrivos Dissertation Award provides recognition to a young scientist who has performed original doctoral thesis work of outstanding scientific quality and achievement in the area of fluid dynamics. Recipients of this prize are honored at the annual meeting and present a lecture on their work.
Asst. Professor Quinn first came to the University of Virginia as an undergraduate student in 2006. After graduating with a BS in Aerospace Engineering, he attended Princeton University and completed a PhD in the Hydrodynamics Lab working on bio-inspired propulsion with Professor Lex Smits.
Wade Schoppa has been selected to receive the 2002 Andreas Acrivos Dissertation Award in Fluid Dynamics from the American Physical Society (APS).
